CPN shuts Rolpa seeking release of its cadres

Dang, November 13

Life in Rolpa was affected today due to a bandh called by Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand seeking the release of its cadres who were arrested earlier.

While marketplaces and educational institutions remained shut, vehicles stayed off the road today in response to the bandh call made by CPN leader Pratap who issued a statement yesterday.

As the bandh prevailed, scores of vehicles bound for Rolpa were stranded in Dang and Pyuthan. While Liwang-bound vehicles are stranded at Khungri and Bhingri, conveyances bound for Holeri, Ghartigaun, Tabang and Chunband and other places in the south were stranded at Duikholi of Dang.

Earlier, police had arrested CPN district Rolpa district in-charge Dal Bahadur Khatri and district secretary Santosh Subedi about a week ago on charges of involvement in anti-election activities. A public case had been pressed against the persons involved in anti-election activities.

The same day two other youths had also been arrested with a pistol. Police have pressed a case against them as they are presumed to be CPN cadres.

The party, on its part, has accused the government of arresting its cadres for no apparent reason.

“As the government was showing high-handedness by arrested our men, we had to resort to the shutdown,” the statement read.
