Construction of houses begins in storm hit Bara, Parsa villages

BARA: Construction of houses in the villages in Bara and Parsa which were worst hit by the recent storm began today. The reconstruction began under the people' housing project launched at once from 12 places in the districts.

At the programme organized to lay the foundation stone to a house here, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwor Pokhrel urged the locals and people's representatives to extend support to the government for the people's housing project.

"Nepal Army will accomplish its responsibility with the stipulated time. All tiers of governments should work in coordination to make the project successful to ensure safe housing to the people surviving the disaster," he added.

Nepal Army is tasked to build 1362 houses in Bara and 92 in Parsa district. The houses would be handed over by coming mid-August. The government has decided to allocate Rs 79 million to the Nepal Army for the reconstruction. It is estimated that a house having three rooms would cost half a million rupees to construct. As many as 3,000 army persons including technicians would be mobilized for the project.
