Rajbiraj, November 14

The under-construction Martyrs’ Memorial Gate has been left incomplete, thanks to negligence on part of the contractor in Rajbiraj Municipality, Saptari.

Rajbiraj Municipality had decided to construct the gate from the budget of fiscal 2017-18 along the Rajbiraj-Rupani road section.

New Gahill Construction at Rajbiraj had signed the paper for construction of the gate on 29 December 2018. Ashok Das, an engineer in the municipality said the six-month deadline for completion of the gate was extended after  construction could not be completed on the stipulated date. “The construction work was completely stopped for the past six months after it could not be completed on the stipulated date,” he added.

According to the municipality, around 75 per cent construction work was completed and the construction company had also received Rs 5 million for the same. Das said it had yet to decide whether the time would be extended. “The meeting of the municipal executive could not be held for a long time,” he added. Das said the meeting would decide on the issue of time extension.

Mayor Shambhu Prasad Yadav of the municipality said the construction work would be completed after the extension of time once again. “We are holding discussion for completion of the construction within a month,” he said.
