Cop killed accidentally in Pokhara
Pokhara, February 7:
A police constable was killed when a pistol went off accidentally at the Kaski District Police Office (DPO) last night.
Shambhu Bahadur Bhandari was hit by the bullet at around 10:45 pm when a team of policemen deployed for the municipal polls were being given weapons.
Bhandari, who had bullet injury in his chest, died while undergoing treatment at the Fish Tail Hospital, DPO said.
SP at the Kaski DPO, Rabi Raj Shrestha, said the family of the deceased Bhandari was provided Rs 1.25 lakhs of insurance money immediately.
Twenty-seven-year-old Bhandari of Lekhnath Municipality-5 was posted at the DPO.
His body was handed over to his family after performing post-mortem at the Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara, today.
The local residents of Lekhnath-5 had gheraoed the hospital, demanding appropriate compensation and action against the culprit. The locals said Bhandari’s wife Inda is pregnant.
