Council, forum for elderly communists mooted

KATHMANDU: The standing committee meeting of the ruling coalition party Communist Party of Nepal-UML today decided to constitute a Central Advisory Council and a Senior Communist Forum, where elderly communist leaders who had sacrificed their life in the Left movement would be accommodated.

Party’s eighth general convention held in Butwal last February had come up with the idea to form both the Council and the Forum.

Party secretary Yuvaraj Gyawali said that the Central Advisory Council would consist of 47 members while the Senior Communist Forum will have 20 members and coordinators of both the bodies would be elected from among the members.

Today’s standing committee meeting was called to distribute responsibilities and assignments of the party’s central leaders in various central departments.

Gyawali said that today’s standing committee meeting appointed Parshuram Meghi Gurung as the coordinator of the Department of Federal Affairs, a new wing created by the party to study the state restructuring and federalism.
