POKHARA: One person died and 10 others were injured -- five of them critically- after a jeep with CPN-UML cadres on board met with an accident at Ambot of Syangja district on Saturday.

They were heading to Biruwa Bazaar from Orastebot of Biruwa Rural Municipality-4 to take part in an election campaign, according to CP Sharma, a local CPN-UML cadre.

The deceased has been identified as Jel Bahadur Thapa (33).

Critically injured in the incident, he died at the Syanja District Hospital during treatment.

DSP Bir Bahadur Pulami said that five of the critically injured have been referred to the Gandaki Medical College in Pokhara for further treatment.Police said the jeep had been carrying passengers beyond its limit, suspecting brake failure as the cause of the fatal accident.
