CPN-UML launches Mechi-Mahakali campaign from Jhapa

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML today has launched a two-week Mechi-Mahakali campaign for what it said strengthening national unity, sovereignty and Constitution implementation in the country.

UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, senior leaders Jhalanath Khanal and leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, vice-chairmen Bamdev Gautam and Bhim Bahadur Rawal and Standing Committee member Subas Nembang had reached Jhapa district today to inaugurate the campaign.

According to the itinerary made public by the party, the campaign will commence from local Kakarvitaa of Jhapa in Mechi and would conclude on March 18 in Surkhet.

Publicity materials for the campaign have been distributed in Nepali, Maithali, Tharu, Doteli and Bhojpuri languages, according to the party.

Meanwhile, the party is commemorating the death anniversary of its leaders in Sukhani of Jhapa district during the Panchayat era.

Lawmaker Rabin Koirala of Jhapa-1 said separate programmes would be held in Sallbari, Sukhani, Garamani and Jyamirgadhi where the leaders would pay tributes to the martyrs.

UML Chair Oli, who took part in the 'Jhapa Rebellion', among other leaders visited Sukhani Park and offered tributes to the martyrs to officially launch the nationwide campaign this morning.

Ramnath Dahal, Netra Ghimire, Biren Rajbanshi, Krishna Kuinkel and Narayan Shrestha were executed in the jungle by a firing squad on March 4, 1973.
