CPN-UML for fair, fearless and transparent, 3rd phase local polls
KATHMANDU: The main opposition party CPN-UML on Tuesday has drawn attention to the Election Commission for effective implementation of election code of conduct.
In a statement today, UML accused the ruling government for misusing state power for influencing voters and agitating people as the election fervour is gripping the Terai region.
UML's Publicity Department Chief Yogesh Bhattarai said the ruling coalition government, including ministers, and leaders have been misusing state power for violating election code of conduct in the region.
"UML urged the Election Commission to implement the election code of conduct to ensure the right of every voters to cast their vote in a fair, fearless and transparent manner," it said in the statement.
Everyone has right to express their freedom, that's the beauty of democracy, however, recent activities against UML in the Terai region is intolerable and unacceptable.
"UML has always been in the forefront of Madhesi people's struggle for creating equality, social harmony, abolition of feudal system, caste based and sexual discrimination in the region," Secretary Bhattarai shared.
Meanwhile, UML urged the government, security agencies and civil servants to create conducive environment to guarantee the rights of every voters to cast their vote in a fair, transparent and fearless manner.
The third phase of local level elections in eight districts of province number 2 is slated on September 18.
As per the Constitutional requirement, all level of elections should be held by January 21, Provincial and Parliamentary elections are slated on November 26 and December 7, for the implementation of Constitution and Federalism in the country.
