Creation of new local structures celebrated

Locals of rural Bajura are elated at the country’s transition to a federal structure as they hope this will bring an end to their plight of having to travel to the district headquarters to avail of all kinds of state services.

According to Shankar Malla of Himali Rural Municipality, celebrations have started in rural villages of Bajura after the creation of new local levels. “Earlier people had to make a long haul to the district headquarters for all kinds of services. But with the formation of new local levels, we will be relieved of long travels for basic facilities,” he said.

Local Ganesh Shahi of Chhededaha Rural Municipality-2 shared similar feelings. “We will no longer have to visit Martadi just to get a simple things done, thanks to the government’s decision to create new local levels,” he said.

As per the new structure, Bajura has four municipalities and five rural municipalities. Earlier, the district comprised one municipality and 24 village development committees. As for now, work in the the newly-formed local bodies has started with the government sending officials to take charge of the concerned offices.

District Coordination Committee Secretary of Bajura Prakashraj Poudel said the local levels will now be able to issue citizenship certificates and passports, among others documents.
