Crime cases up in Janakpur

Janakpur has witnessed increase in the number of criminal incidents in the last fiscal against the previous year.

Against 286 serious criminal incidents in fiscal 2013/14, the number in the last fiscal stands at 307 in Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Sindhuli, Dolakha and Ramechhap districts. As per the report, of the total 300-plus cases of last year, 134 are related to illegal drugs, while cases related to murder and rape and arms and ammunition were 69, 57 and 32 respectively.

Zonal Police Office chief SSP Suresh Bikram Shah said of the 1,818 cases registered with police last fiscal, 1,033 are undergoing court proceedings, while the remaining 785 are under investigation. Among various criminal incidents in the zone in the last fiscal, Dhanusha alone saw 656 criminal incidents, while Mahottari and Sarlahi registered 348 and 357 such incidents respectively.
