Jailbirds of Ramechhap district prison have been at the receiving end due to the ongoing fuel crisis across the country.

The fuel crisis has affected more than 250 inmates as it has been getting increasingly difficult for the prison authorities to fetch firewood for cooking food for the jail birds.

The prison is located about 13 kilometres away from district headquarters Manthali.

“Earlier, we would collect firewood from the inner villages and ferry it to the prison in vehicles. However, we have not been able to do so owing to lack of fuel,” said Jailor Uddhav Baral. “Besides, the shortage of other basic commodities and food items has been severe,” he said, adding that he had informed the prison department and CDO about the situation.

Rita Magar of Deurali VDC came to the district headquarters to make necessary purchases, but had to return home dissatisfied.
