Crisis looming: NC veep Shrestha

Syangja, November 15:

The nation could face a constitutional crisis if the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls were not held by the year 2064 BS, NC vice-president Gopal Man Shrestha said.

Different conditions laid down by the Maoists have led to the deferral of the CA polls, which are important for building a new Nepal, he said.

He claimed that the Maoists are running away from the polls, fearing the NC will emerge the winner.

Speaking at a tea reception held for promoting peace, goodwill and friendship, Shrestha said the nation could have become a republic in 15 days had the Maoists cooperated for holding the polls.

He added that the polls were deferred due to the Maoists. Calling for the fixation of a new poll date soon, he called upon the CPN (UML) to shun double standards and make its view clear.
