Criticise govt, not me, Deuba tells cadres

Bhairahawa, November 22

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has asked party cadres to muster the courage to protest the excesses of the communist government.

“Don’t criticise me, criticise the government and its wrong activities,” he exhorted party Mahasamiti members and district working committee office bearers, in an apparent move to deflect the flak from him at a province-level cadres’ meet organised by the party in Province 5, Bhairahawa today.

“Instead of criticising me, why not protest the wayward government and its activities?” asked the NC chief, warning that the government was bent on imposing authoritarianism in the country.

“If we don’t speak, we must be ready to see communist authoritarianism. So, it’s high time we stood together to stop the government from doing the worst. If a senior leader like Madhav Kumar Nepal from the ruling party can criticise his own party’s government, then why can’t we do the same,” NC President Deuba said.
