Croc fished out of private pond, freed in Rapti river

Chitwan, July 29:

The Royal Chitwan National Park employees today released a crocodile caught from a private pond. According to officials of the Park’s east sector in Sauraha, a crocodile of ‘Mugger’ (alligator) species was spotted in a pond belonging to Milan Lama in Ratna Nagar Municipality-6 of Mohana. The crocodile was taken out by park gamescouts Toya Nath Sharma and Nageshwor Chaudhary and released in Rapti river. According to Chaudhary, the crocodile was caught by pumping out water from the pond. The crocodile is a two-year old and healthy. Reptiles of the Mugger species are rare here, though there is a breeding centre for the “Ghadiyal” species.
