CTEVT’s date with padlocks persists

BHAKTAPUR: Two employees’ organisations and two students’ unions today padlocked the office of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) for an indefinite period.

Putting forth their 13-point charter of demands, the CTEVT Employees’ Organisation and CTEVT Nepal National Employees’ Organisation today padlocked the office of member secretary, vice chairman and affiliation section at CTEVT.

Rohit Dahal, president of CTEVT Employees’ Organisation, said that they compelled to resort to the protest for the implementation of agreement reached with the management on December 17, 2008. Likewise, their protest was also against the new restriction provision in the affiliation process recently decided by the CTEVT.

He ruled out possibility of withdrawing their protests until their demands were addressed by the Ministry of Education. He, however, said that they were ready to open the padlock if they were called for talks.

Similarly, General Medicine Student Society and All Nepal National Free Students Union also padlocked the same offices today with various demands. The students are demanding for the provision of new quotas for them, modification in curriculum, uniformity in fee structure, among others.
