Biratnagar, September 28:

An irate mob gheraoed the Nepal Rastra Bank here after it could not issue new currency notes during Dashain as per demand. Usually, the demand for new currency notes surges during Dashain. The furious mob vandalised the main gate before bursting into the office.

A majority of people failed to get new notes despite queuing up for hours.

Bank sources said the new notes were pending at Kolkata in India and Birgunj. NRB manager in Biratnagar, Tej Bahadur Rana, said the bank could not circulate the new currency even to other banks.

The bank was circulating only the polymer note of Rs 10 denomination till today. The Rs 5 notes were issued for only a day today after delivery was received on September 26.
