Cutting Morcha out of Constitution amendment process not acceptable: TMDP Chairman

LAHAN: The Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur on Saturday said eliminating the Madhesi Morcha from Constitution amendment process would not be acceptable to them.

Talking to media-persons in Lahan, Siraha, Thakur also warned of taking to the streets if the Constitution was amended without consensus.

Saying they (the Morcha) were informed by Prime Minister by phone about the preparations regarding the draft of the Constitution amendment, he claimed that no consultation had been held so far with the Morcha on the contents of the draft.

He also accused the government of failing to translate words into action and stressed the need for amending the Constitution as per the spirit of the three-point agreements struck with the government.

The Morcha is an alliance of different Madhes-centric parties, including TMDP and other indigenous parties, that is calling for Constitution amendment to address their demands.
