Dahal ‘confident’ about statute within month

BIRGUNJ, July 11

Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Saturday expressed confidence that the Constituent Assembly would delineate provinces and promulgate the new constitution within a month.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Parsa chapter of the Federation of Revolutionary Journalists in Birgunj, Dahal said that four major political parties had reached an agreement to deliver the new constitution within a month. “The deadline to declare the constitution will not go beyond one month,” he assured.

Stating that work to collect feedback from the people on the draft of the constitution was underway, Dahal urged the general public to give their clear suggestions on federal set-up.

“Our party wants to settle the dispute on the demarcation of federal provinces before promulgating the new constitution,” said Dahal, adding, “We want the constitution promulgated only after the demarcation of provinces.”

About the opposition of other parties regarding the new statute, Dahal held that there was no point in obstructing the efforts made by major parties to bring out the country’s principal law.

He also made it clear that One Madhes Pradesh was not possible.

Flaying Upendra Yadav, chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Dahal asked the people ‘not to consider Yadav the messiah of Tarai’. “Yadav thinks he has the sole responsibility of Madhes, which is not correct,” Dahal said.

The former prime minister also defended the 16-point agreement reached among four major parties, saying that they had no choice but to move ahead making the accord the guiding principle for the promulgation of the new constitution.
