Maoist Center chair Dahal stresses on socialism-oriented education system

CHITWAN: CPN Maoist Center chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the socialism-oriented education system is now the need of country. In his address to an opening of the eighth district convention of Unified All Nepal Teachers' Association, Chitwan here Saturday, the former Prime Minister spoke of a significant role of education to lead the country towards a new era.

The course of socialism had already begun in the country and it should be further accelerated with the help of education, he said, calling for teachers' support and cooperation as well. He was of the view that socialism-oriented education would help limit the role of private sector, thus promoting the role of community schools.

According to him, teachers had a significant role in every major changes in the nation and their contribution should be properly recognised. He went on to say that the nation was getting its way towards political stability and government with the forging of left unity, he pledged that a new government to be led by the left alliance would take steps to discourage what he called anomalies in the education sector.

Giving his reaction about the recent decisions made by the incumbent government, he accused the leadership of taking decisions capable of having impact on the long run, calling for collective efforts to resist such moves.
