DAO asks NRB to freeze DDC accounts
BARA: The Bara District Administration Office today sent an official letter to the Kalaiya branch of the Nepal Rastra Bank asking the latter to freeze all bank accounts of the Bara District Development Committee (DDC).
Taranath Gautam, Chief District Officer (CDO), said the bank has been asked to freeze the accounts until the Local Development Officer (LDO) turns up.
A group of youths aligned to the Nepali Congress had submitted a memorandum to the DAO demanding the bank to freeze the accounts. According to them, cheques were being issued by the DDC in the absence of the LDO. CDO Gautam said the accounts will again be activated after the LDO returns to work.
Along with the memorandum, the youths had also submitted a “fake” letter allegedly written by LDO Shyam Sundar Mishra asking the office to pay Rs 12,178,412 out of 22,500,000, deposited as contract amount in Siddhartha Bank, Birgunj office by Yadav Traders.
Yadav Traders had deposited the amount for the contract of sand and stone for the fiscal year 2008/2009. Lukesh Singh, chairman, Tarun Dal Bara said they had demanded the closure of bank accounts citing financial anomalies.
