Dashain festivities take its toll; 4 killed, 17 hurt
Pokhara, October 11:
Four persons died and 17 were injured in three mishaps during Dashain in Kaski district.
Topali Chhetri, 35, of Lwangdhalel-9 and her seven-year-old daughter Asmita fell to death from a bridge over the Mardi River on Thursday, the Kaski District Police Office said, adding that people fished out the bodies from the river on Friday. Meanwhile, two children of a family died in a fire in Sidajure VDC-8 on Wednesday night.
Arjun Tamang’s four-year-old son Bhimsen and 15-month-old son Santosh died in the fire that broke out in their house.
Tamang’s wife Devi, who was injured in the incident, has been undergoing treatment in the Pokhara-based Western Regional Hospital, the police said.
In another incident, 12 persons were injured when a microbus heading to Pokhara from Kathmandu met with an accident at Majuwa of Lekhnath-13 on Friday night. All the injured, including Lila Kumari Tamang, 40, and Shanta Tamang, have been undergoing treatment in Pokhara.
In Tanahun, five passengers were injured when a jeep, which was heading to Damauli from Keshavtar, rammed at the roadside wall at Pokharibhanjyang – 1 yesterday. Prem Bahadur Thapa, 23, Sita Gairhe, 34, Nama Narayan Thapa, 25, nine-year-old Kanchan Maya Thapa and seven-year-old Sangam Gairhe were injured in the mishap, the police said. The injured are undergoing treatment at the Damauli hospital.
