DDC Staffers shot at

JANAKPURDHAM: Three persons, including an assistant-accountant at District Development Committee, were injured when a gang opened fire at them on Tuesday.

Jivnath Chaudhari of Janakpur Municipality was shot in the back at Bishwakarma Chowk while he was speeding home on his motorcycle. His nephew Amit Tiwari, the pillion rider, was shot in the arm. The gang also shot Mithila Sharma, a technician at Nepal Electricity Authority’s Janakpur branch.

Chaudhari and Tiwari have been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment. Family sources said Chaudhari was out of danger. Arjun, politburo member, Janatantrik Madhes Mukti Tiger, has owned up the incident.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Government Employees’ Organisation has demanded treatment and compensation for the injured.

Issuing a press statement, Mohan Kumar Ghimire, secretary, Nepal Government Eemployees’ Organisation, condemned the attack on civil servants and the public.

“It is a matter of serious concern that unarmed civil servants have continuously been abducted, extorted, assaulted and murdered,” stated the release.
