Decision on polling stations in six districts of Province 2 after April 2

Kathmandu, March 29

The Election Commission today said that it would take a new decision on polling stations in six districts of Province 2 that had failed to forge consensus on polling stations for local level elections slated for May 14.

The election body, which had asked all districts to send report on polling stations by March 23, stated that six districts of Province-2, namely Siraha, Dhanusha, Rautahat, Mahottari, Saptari and Sarlahi, had not sent their reports on polling stations.

“The EC will take a decision regarding those districts if they fail to send reports by April 2,” said EC’s Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.

He said the EC could extend the deadline and ask its district offices to send report by forging political consensus or could instruct its district offices to send reports with or without political consensus.

He added that election schedule would be affected if the remaining districts did not send their report by April 2.

Due to protest from the United Democratic Madhesi Front, an alliance of the agitating Madhesi parties, the six districts of Province 2 have not been able to forge consensus on polling stations.
