Delayed construction disrupts lessons

Rukum, August 24

Six years into its construction, the building of Tribhuvan Janata Higher Secondary School in Rukum is yet to be completed.

The building is being constructed with a fund of Rs 27.8 million provided by the Indian government.

As per the contract, the building was slated to have been completed within 18 months since its construction began.

Meanwhile, the delayed construction has become a bane for the school that is already facing problems conducting classes. “As the old structure was pulled down to make way for the new one, it’s really difficult to hold classes because the new building is not yet ready,” said school Principal Hari Prasad Khanal.

Further, Khanal bemoaned the plight of having to run classes from the nearby Khalanga Multiple Campus.

“The contractor has somehow erected the building in all these years, but hasn’t done the finishing,” said the head teacher, ruing the negligence on the part of the contractor in completing the building.

Earlier, upon failing to complete the project in time, contractor Surya Construction Pvt Ltd had been granted extension to complete the project about six months ago.

Contractor Tek Bahadur Pun, who is also the chairman of Rukum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, couldn’t be contacted for comments regarding the matter.
