Deuba for PLA merger

SINDHULIMADI: Former Prime Minister and senior leader of the Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba today said that qualified Maoist combatants could be integrated in different security bodies.

He said that it should not be made a matter of discussion as it is clearly mentioned about the rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants in the Comprehensive Peace Accord.

Speaking to the journalists in Sidhuli today Deuba said that the new statute could be drafted within the stipulated time if the UCPN-Maoist cooperated.

Stating that his party would continue supporting the Madhav Kumar Nepal led government, he said that the present government would topple only

if the UCPN-Maoist gained majority in the parliament.

He said that the democracy could be strengthened in the country only if NC becomes the strongest party. “NC was defeated in the CA elections or the first time in the history of Nepal,’’ he said.

Claiming that the Maoist cadres could impose totalitarianism in the country, he said,’’ I urge all the political leaders to forget the dispute and move ahead cooperatively.’’
