Dhading faces acute potable
Dhading, February 27:
Locals in Kanpur VDC-6 in Dhading are compelled to walk for more than an hour to fetch drinking water, as there is no source of drinking water nearby.
“Though there is an irrigation canal near our village, we have no option but to walk for hours to fetch drinking water,” a local, Krishna Khatiwada, said.
The villagers have been fetching water from a tap on the premises of Satyawati Higher Secondary School.
“Some 90 households in the VDC depend on the tap in the school for drinking water. The tap alone can’t meet the demand of both students and the villagers,” principal Laxman Khatiwada said.
Currently, some 1,300 students are studying in the school. The population of the village is nearly 2,000.
Though there is a well in the upper part of the village, it takes around two hours to reach there, the locals said.
“There is no water source near the village and we don’t have enough budget to bring water from far-off places,” principal Khadka said.
