Dhangadhi-Attariya road expansion starts

DHANGADHI: The expansion of 14-kilometre Dhangadhi-Attariya road section in Kailali district has started.

According to Mahendra Raj Panta, engineer of Road Division Office of Mahendranagar, the field survey has been complete and the designing of the road has just begun.

Earlier, the government had announced to expand the road to four-lane after finding the section too narrow amid increasing urbanisation and heavy traffic.

After the increase of vehicles plying on the road, the residents by the roadside had also demanded the expansion.

For a long time, the government has done nothing else except some maintenance of the road, claimed locals.

Not only the urbanisation, but the encroachment of land along the road section has caused another problem.

However, the encroached land can be recovered during the expansion as the 50-metre width is sufficient for four-lane road, informed Panta.

Local informed that the road needed some upgrading as it was badly damaged by movement of heavy trucks.

It is expected that the road expansion would decrease accidents along the route.
