Dhangadhi curfew eased for five hours

Dhangadhi, May 29:

The Kailali district administration today eased curfew clamped in eight wards of the Dhangadhi municipality for five hours from 5.00 pm.

The curfew was in effect in the municipality from 2.00 pm yesterday after three protesters

died in police firing during clashes.

Three persons from Urma VDC of Kailali had died when police opened fire at a mob trying to barge into the district administration office while a meeting of the local administration, security agencies and rights activists was in progress.

Issue of publication of news on a local issue had flared up after Maoists thrashed a journalist for writing against them.

Chief District Officer Chhetra Bahadur Bhandari said indefinite curfew was relaxed for five hours after situation normalised.

Meanwhile, today’s all-party meeting chaired by CDO Bhandari reached a nine-point understanding and agreed to work for restoring social harmony.
