Diarrhoea takes week-long-toll on Gulmi village

TAMGHAS, GULMI: Locals have been plagued by diarrhoea for the past week, which is yet to come under control, in a village of Gulmi district.

Over 100 people have been taken ill so far and the number is on the rise, said local representative Hari Chhantyal.

Water supply to the village of Dajakot in Musikot Municipality-4 with 85 households has become polluted causing the disease, said locals.

The patients are suffering from diarrhoea accompanied by headache and vomitting, said public health officer at District Public Health Office (DPHO), Gulmi, Mahesh Shrestha.

Of the patients, one is being treated at Gulmi Hospital in Tamghas, one at Gautam Buddha Hospital in Butwal, and others at local health facilities, it has been learnt.

Local Pashupati Lower Secondary School has also shut after its students started falling ill from the disease, said the school administration.

Following the outbreak, a DPHO team reached the affected village and treated the patients there before returning on Thursday.
