Disabled seek nomination in assembly

Kathmandu, May 9:

As many as 100 physically challenged people, who were staging a sit-in demanding nomination seat in the Constituent Assembly in Baluwatar, were arrested today.

Issuing a press release, National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal (NFDN) said police arrested around 100 disabled persons when the latter staged a sit-in at Gate No 3 of the PM’s residence.

The police also destroyed wheelchairs and white canes of the protesting disabled persons and have kept them at Metropolitan Police sector, Kamalpokhari, the release stated, condemning the police action.

Demanding proper representation in the CA, disabled people have been staging protests since a few days ago, NFDN added.

A report from Pokhara said physically challenged people staged a one-hour chakkajam at Prithvi Chowk to protest the police action against disabled people yesterday in Kathmandu. They also demanded release of those held yesterday.

Speaking after the chakkajam, NDF central member Ramesh Pokhrel warned that if the demands of the disabled people were not addressed, they would take to the streets and start an agitation against the seven political parties.
