Discussion held on ways to increase cardamom production

Panchthar, November 17

A discussion was held on ways to increase cardamom production for the first time in Phidim of Panchthar district today.

Organised by Panchthar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the programme was attended by chief of District Coordination Committee, chiefs of the municipalities and rural municipalities, chief administrative officers, among others. The draft of the policy was prepared by Unnati Inclusive Progress Programme.

In the draft, the role of local levels in improvingĀ  the quality of cardamom was underscored.

Allocation of budget in the field of agriculture was also prioritised.

At the programme, the participants suggested to the government to encourage cardamom farmers to test soil before starting commercial cultivation of the cash crop. Likewise, they demanded that grant be provided to farmers for the construction of improved kiln to dry their produce.

They also recommended that the government play the role of a facilitator for the farmers to avail loan from banks. Phalelung Rural Municipality Chair Sancha Kumar Kerung said thatĀ  professional organisations had to take initiatives to hold discussions regarding different cash crops in the rural municipality.
