Displaced people to be rehabilitated
Kathmandu, August 4:
Maoists have agreed to rehabilitate displaced individuals from various parts of Taplejung district at the initiation of the Eastern Regional Office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the rights body said in a statement today.
The agreement was reached following an interaction between NHRC officials and Maoist representatives.
A committee comprising two Maoists and human rights defenders will be formed soon to take willing displaced individuals to their homes and hand them over to their community, the statement said.
The committee will request the District Administration Office (DAO) to provide relief materials for three months to families who are deprived of food and shelter, it said.
Records at the Taplejung District Administration Office reveals that a total of 126 families have been displaced in the district. However, the Taplejung District Displaced Association has a record of 246 displaced families, it said.
“Those who do not wish to be rehabilitated will be taken off the list in a month’s time,” the NHRC added.
