Dispute delays sports hall

Tanahun, November 25:

Halting of construction of a covered hall due to a dispute over the land has worried sport lovers here. The District Development Committee (DDC) had decided to provide two ropanis of land near the BP Park construction of a covered hall to the Tanahun District Sports Development Committee but the Nepali Congress (NC), Tanahun, protested the move delaying the construction work, it is learnt. The NC Tanahun says the park is associated with BP Koirala, a historical person so it was not appropriate to use the land near the park for construction of a covered hall. The party has also warned of a protest if their voice is not heard.

Mahendra Prasad Yadav, secretary of District Sports Development Committee (DSDC) said, “The DDC provided the land after Kishor Bahadur Singh, the member secretary of the National Sports Council and Mohan Ghale, chief of Western Regional Sports Development Committee requested the DDC.” Rajuram Pande, a taekwon-do trainer said, lack of covered hall has affected the training schedule of different games. Sundar Gurung, district chairman of Nepal Siteriyo Karate Union stressed the need for construction of the covered hall as soon as possible by solving all the differences.

Insisting that covered hall has to be constructed in the place near a playground, Krishna Prasad Gautam, member of NC general committee said, “We think it is not wise to use the land which has been alotted for construction of a park in honour of a historical personality.”

DDC chairman Phadindra Bahadur Pande said they were looking for another location for construction of the covered hall.
