Dissolution of consumers’ committee demanded

Rajbiraj, January 7

Locals of Maletha VDC in Saptari have demanded dissolution of consumers’ committee, saying the committee formed to repair road under the Constituency Area Infrastructure Development Programme was biased.

Locals today demanded dissolution of the committee at a press meet organised in Rajbiraj. Former vice-chairman at the VDC office Ibrahim Miya said a budget of Rs 13 lakh was allocated to repair the road from Aandheri Petrol Pump to Jagadari Tole at wards 3, 8, and 9.

Miya added that though Ward number 9 had maximum population, the committee did not have a single person representing the ward. “The committee was formed in an individual’s house rather than holding discussion among the people in mass,” he said.

He said they had frequently raised their concern with the committee members that no one was representing Ward number 9. But some committee members said as lawmaker representing the CPN-UML had allocated the budget, only UML supporters were chosen as members of the committee.

Political parties had earlier said the committee would comprise general public representing all wards, but failed to do so.
