Divorce cases on the rise in Salyan

Salyan District Court stated that more than 100 cases of divorce were registered at the court in the past one year.

Of the total 133 cases filed at the court, 101 were divorce cases.

Speaking at a press meet, Judge Madan Bahadur Dhami said most of the cases were filed by females between 14 and 19 years of age. More than 50 per cent of the applicants seeking divorce have children.

“We have provided counselling to many of the women seeking divorce, but since they file such cases through mutual agreement and they do not listen to us,” he said.

Judge Dhami said that the future of many children had become uncertain with their parents seeking divorce.

Judge Dhami stated that early marriage was the main cause behind rise in divorce cases.

Ninety nine cases of divorce were registered in Salyan District Court last fiscal year.
