Doctors resort to agitation at BPKIHS

Sunsari, July 19

Doctors at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences have launched agitation to support Dr Govind KC, a surgeon who has been on a fast-unto-death protest.

Though the hospital administration started registering patients for the outpatient department from 8:00am as usual, the agitation was declared a while later, much to the chagrin of registered patients, whose patient registration slips were taken back as they were informed about the stay on services.

Calling the agitation, Junior Resident Welfare Society Chairperson Dr Jivanath Dhamala and his team submitted a memorandum to Vice-chancellor Raj Kumar Rauniyar in this regard.

Agitating doctors have also protested against the administration for continuing with its services till this day by giving a hoot to the demands of Nepal Medical Association.

“As the government has failed to take positive initiatives to address the agitating doctor’s demands, we were bound to take up agitation in solidarity with Dr. KC,” said Dhamala.

Meanwhile, the sudden decision of the doctors to halt work put service seekers at the receiving end today. Hundreds of patients who had already registered themselves or were in a queue for the registration were spurned.

Dil Bahadur of Jhapa lamented that he had come to the hospital all the way from Jhapa just to return home empty-handed. “I, along with my mother, had come all the way from our home for her treatment, but we were told to return home,” he said.
