Dolakha earthquake victims told to expedite reconstruction

Dolakha, December 29

Dolakha District Coordination Committee Secretariat Chief Sagar Acharya has initiated a door-to-door campaign in the remote villages of the district to urge earthquake-affected people to speed up reconstruction work.

Acharya is requesting the people to construct their houses abiding by the criteria and standards set by the government. He said that no one had the prerogative to misuse housing grant provided by the government.

At a time when the NRA is drawing flak for sluggish work, Acharya made a visit to the village to encourage quake victims to construct their houses pronto. Acharya met the quake victims living in the makeshift tents in the then Boch, Lakuridabda, Magapauwa,Fasku, Magapauwa VDCs and told them not to misuse the first instalment of the grant provided by the government. He urged them to cooperate with the government in carrying out reconstruction work.  Quake victims, however, complained that they had failed to start construction of houses due to shortage of engineers and technicians.

Sher Bahadur Shrestha of Katakuti said they were living in temporary shelter not out of choice but compulsion. Shrestha bemoaned that he had failed to reconstruct his house for want of fund.

Likewise, Ram Bahadur Tamang of Boch demanded that the second and third instalments of the housing grant be provided with ease. Tamang complained that process to receive the second and third instalment grant amount was quite complicated and long.

Acharya asked quake victims to call him directly if they faced any problems in receiving the second and third tranche of the housing grant.
