Don’t enlist kids: OHCHR to Maoists

Kathmandu, November 22:

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) today expressed serious concern about reports of Maoists forcing children to rejoin the People’s Liberation Army.

Issuing a statement, the OHCHR called the Maoists to respect the rights of the children and not to force them to rejoin the PLA and to return to cantonments. “It is sheer violation of the rights of children,” the chief of the OHCHR-Nepal, Richard Bennett, said in a statement. He added that the OHCHR has been receiving complaints about the Maoists forcing children to rejoin the PLA.
