DPM Nidhi instructs Gorkha CDO to be ready for local polls
GORKHA: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi has instructed the Chief District Officer of Gorkha, Jitendra Basnet, to get prepared for the local body election.
At an interaction programme held in Gorkha Bazaar this morning, DPM Nidhi reaffirmed the government's commitment to hold the local body election by mid-April, 2017.
Stating that the government was firm on holding the three level elections—local, provincial and federal—by January, 2018, DPM Nidhi asked the chiefs of security bodies and other government agencies in the district to be on standby for the same.
Clarifying that the government had registered the Constitution Amendment bill in the Legislature-Parliament to increase the broader acceptability of the new Constitution, the DPM expressed his confidence that the bill would be endorsed from the Parliament.
According to him, election dates would be declared following the endorsement of the bill. The DPM also asked the Election Office in the district to prepare voters' list.
On a different note, DPM Nidhi reiterated government's priority was to help reconstruct the quake-damaged physical infrastructures. He assured that the second installment of the relief grant to rebuild the quake-damaged houses would be distributed at the earliest.
