DPM Bimalendra Nidhi leaves for Delhi as Nepal PM's emissary

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi on Thursday left for the Indian Capital of New Delhi as the special envoy of Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Before flying to Delhi, Nidhi said he would strive to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations during his Delhi trip.

The second man of the incumbent coalition government also said he would prepare grounds for India visits by Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari and PM Dahal.

Nidhi, meanwhile, would also hand over President Bhandari's Nepal visit invitation to her Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee.

He would also call on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most possibly on Saturday.

Besides the President and the PM, he would meet Minister for External Affairs, Minister for Home Affairs as well as other political leaders and high-ranking officials.

Earlier, the Cabinet on August 11 had decided to send DPM Nidhi to India and another DPM Krishna Bahadur Mahara to China as PM Dahal's emissaries to the neighbours to convey messages about the new government's priorities.

Accordingly, Mahara is already in Beijing.
