DPM Pokharel stresses party unity

SINDHULI, JANUARY 6

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Secretariat member and Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel has urged party leaders and cadres to stand for party unity and abide by the previous agreements.

In a meeting with party leaders and cadres here today, he said party unity and unity among communists was necessary for the welfare of the country and people, and urged all the leaders and cadres to stand firmly in favour of party unity.

Stating that the NCP had learnt lessons from party splits in the past and moved forward, DPM Pokhrel said it was wrong of leaders to engage in blaming each other at present. Furthermore, he urged party leaders and cadres to disseminate facts and truth to the people.

“I urge the party leadership to go to the people along with agreements reached for party unity and analyse which of these agreements have been implemented.

Throwing invectives at each other will not consolidate the achievements of the communist movement,” he said.

DPM Pokhrel argued that the party chaired by PM KP Sharma Oli was the legitimate NCP. “The accepted practice is that the party general secretary calls the party’s meeting with the approval of the party chair,” he said.

On the occasion, DPM Pokhrel recalled that the then CPN (UML) had provided shelter to hundreds of people displaced from their homes and compelled to live under the open sky in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in 2015.

He asked where the NCP was when the whole country was suffering due to the coronavirus pandemic and its adverse impacts.

He also called on party cadres to publicise the commendable works done by the government in favour of the people for protection of nationality and livelihood.

DPM Pokhrel urged the rank and file in the party to work towards achieving the national aspiration of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ and not be influenced by the instigation of some irresponsible leaders.
