Koirala emphasises entrepreneurship intensive programme for youth

NAWALPARASI: Nepali Congress General Secretary Shashanka Koirala has urged the government to introduce enterprise intensive programmes to encourage the youth to stay in the country rather than go abroad for employment.

Inaugurating the second Nawalparasi Youth Conference at Kawaswoti that began on Friday in the district, newly elected member of the House of Representatives Koirala stressed the need for the country to figure out ways of mobilising its youth force for the development of the country by bringing opportunities that would prevent them from going to Gulf countries.

On the occasion, industrialist Binod Chaudhary said that despite around 400,000 young people coming out in the employment market annually, due to lack of technical and vocational education, the problem of unemployment is widening in Nepal. Citing this, he added that there is no other alternative other than the government bringing positive changes in the education system at the policy level.

Around 100 youths representing different sectors of Nawalparasi district are taking part in the conference that has the main motto of “Youth for Social Change”.

The organizer hoped that the conference would be helpful in engaging youth to build sustainable and prosperous society by making them responsible and accountable toward their roles for social change.

The conclusions drawn out from the conference would be handed over to the mayors/chairpersons and deputy mayors/vice-chairpersons of local governments in Nawalparasi district.
