Dramatic rise in divorce cases
Mahottari, August 9:
The Mahottari District Land Revenue Office and Mahottari district court have been witnessing a steep rise in the number of people, who want divorces and ownership of parts of their land transferred to their kin. The rise has been attributed to the possibility of government imposing a ceiling on land holdings.Cases of property partition settlement and divorce have increased significantly in Mahottari. The office settles over 100 property transfer cases every day.
“More and more people have been opting for divorce not because of rows, but because they want to split land and evade land ceiling,” says advocate Narayan Prasad Adhikari.
