Drinking water woes in Siraha township

Siraha, November 12:

Hundreds of people at Chauharwa bazaar of Chandraayodhyapur-1 of Siraha district are forced to fetch drinking water from a dirty well after walking hours.

There are forced to walk for hours after the deep tube wells that were installed by the Siraha District Development Committee (DDC) in the bazaar stopped functioning. No attempt has been made to repair the wells. The DDC had installed four deep tube wells at different parts of the bazaar area three years ago. However, the wells stopped functioning now, a local, Manoj Shah, said.

“Even when the wells were functioning, we had to wait our turn for hours,” another local, Shiwarti Mahato, said, adding, “We are forced to drink water from dirty well.”

Some six persons are suffering from dysentery after drinking water from the dirty well, Mahato said.

“We need a fund of Rs 70,000 to repair the tube-wells. However, we could not get the fund though we visited the DDC and other bodies concerned several times,” chairman of the Deep Tube Well Users’ Committee Ram Sewak Yadav said.

When asked about the issue, the local development officer at the DDC, Ramadhin Yadav, denied to come into contact.
