Drunk man hammers co-worker to death in Melamchi

MELAMCHI: Police have arrested a man on charge of killing his own friend under the influence of alcohol in Palchok of Helambu Rural Municipality-3 in Sindhupalchok district on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bishal Chaudhary (20) and the accused as Sujan Chaudhary (18), both the residents of Barabardiya Municipality-7 in Bardiya district.

The duo had been working as labourers in the Melamchi-based Jaya Bageshwari Secondary School building construction.

Over a dispute, the accused Chaudhary struck his workmate with a hammer killing him on the spot last night, informed Inspector Nawaraj Dhungana at the Area Police Office, Melamchi. The duo who were under the influence of alcohol had argument, when suddenly Sujan allegedly struck his mate with hammer, inflicting critical injuries on his head.

The accused has allegedly confessed to the killing of his friend to the first responding police team reaching the incident site.

Police have arrested Sujan and confiscated the hammer allegedly used in the crime for further investigation, according to Melamchi APO.

Meanwhile, the body has been brought to the Melamchi Health Centre for the postmortem and will be handed over to the family after they come into contact with the authorities, informed Melamchi APO.
