Police personnel injured after assault by drunk workers

BAJURA: As many as five persons have been reportedly arrested for creating disturbance and assaulting on-duty police personnel at Ananta mela in Badimalika Municipality-8 of Bajura district on Saturday.

The arrestees have been identified as Amrit Bohara and Keshab Giri, both working at the National Commercial Bank, Harishankar Joshi, who works at district attorney office, Gorakh Thapa, the technician at Municipality of Badimalika and Anami Dhani Thapa, who works at an NGO called Marie stope centre.

The assaulters have been taken under police custody for creating a chaos in the mela and attacking on-duty police officer, informed Inspector of Police Janak Dhungana at Bajura District Police Office

The incident occurred when the group intoxicated with alcohol attacked police personnel — deployed from Bajura District Police Office to maintain security at the mela — attempted to detain them for creating chaos.  According to Inspector Dhungana, police personnel were injured in the scuffle, including Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Man Bahadur Chand  who was seriously injured in his face.

ASI Chand who had his cheek bone fractured was later referred to more advanced hospital for surgery after his treatment was not possible at Bajura District Hospital, informed Dr Tikaram Rai at the hospital.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
