EC ready to hold elections by January 2018: Yadav

Damauli, August 17

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav today said the Election Commission was ready to hold the three levels of elections by January 21, 2018.

Speaking at an interaction organised by District Election Commission, Tanahun, in Damauli, Yadav held that his office was ready to conduct the election of local bodies, provincial assemblies and House of Representative within the deadline.

“But for this to happen, the parties have to resolve the issues of boundaries and nomenclature at the earliest,” Yadav added.

Yadav stated that election for local bodies, provincial assemblies and House of Representative should be held separately.

Yadav stated that the election commission requires one year maximum and 120 days minimum to prepare for any election. He added that his office had already submitted the draft for holding local polls to the Cabinet.

Yadav argued that declaring election and failing to hold them within the deadline would send out a wrong message to the people. “I have been directly involved in holding polls many times. Based on experience, I can fulfil the historic responsibility,” Yadav said.

Yadav informed that he met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal yesterday and urged the latter to create a conducive environment for elections.
