Education minister’s pledge

Madhyapur Thimi, August 27:

Minister for Education Renu Yadav said today that she would do her best to develop the education sector during her tenure and stressed the need to give equal rights and opportunity to women.

She said this at a programme organised by women employees of the National Centre for

Educational Development (NCED) and the Department of Education (DoE) in Sanothimi to welcome her. Yadav is the first woman Minister for Education.

Yadav said the women should be given equal rights and opportunities their male counterparts are enjoying. “The women should be given equal opportunities as men to prove their capabilities,” she said. The Education Minister said that women can perform various

tasks, adding that they should be encouraged and given responsibilities as per their qualification.

The women participants, including Yadav, danced to mark Teej, which is round the bend.

Teej is considered the greatest festival of women.

Though the programme was organised yesterday. “As the minister could not attend it yesterday, we organised the programme today,” said NCED’s official Satya Devi Giri.
