Eight timber smugglers held

Bardiya, November 24:

A team of the Nepal Army arrested eight timber smugglers in the Bardiya National Park this morning. “Acting on a tip-off, we captured Mahesh Giri of Banke and members of his group while they were felling trees in the park near Bansgadhi at 1:30 am,” said colonel Samir Singh of the Ranasher Battalion, Thakurdwar. The army colonel further said that they also captured weapons and a truck loaded with timbers.

According to locals of Thakurdwar, timber smuggling has been on the rise in the park for the last one month.
