EC submits parliamentary poll results to president
Kathmandu, February 14
The Election Commission today submitted the final results of parliamentary elections held on November 26 and December 7 to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, paving the way for the formation of a new government.
Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav reached the Office of the President at 8:00pm, along with other election commissioners, to hand over the EC’s poll report to the head of the state.
EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal said the poll panel submitted the final result of parliamentary elections
to the president after the five national parties submitted corrected lists of winners of election held under the proportional representation system. He said President Bhandari expressed satisfaction and thanked the EC for successfully holding local level, provincial, parliamentary and the National Assembly elections.
Of the five parties that crossed three per cent threshold to become national parties and got PR seats, the CPN-UML won 41 seats, the Nepali Congress 40, the CPN-Maoist Centre 17 and the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal and the Federal Socialist forum-Nepal won six seats each. Under the FPTP system, the UML won 80 seats, NC 23, CPN-MC 36, RJP-N 11 and FSF-N 10.
As per the constitutional provision, the poll panel has to furnish parliamentary election result to the head of the state after announcing the final result. Result of 165 parliamentary seats under the first-past-the-post system was declared immediately after vote counting for the same was over. The poll panel, however, did not announce the result of parliamentary elections held under the proportional representation system, saying it would do so only after the result of the National Assembly election.
NA election result was announced on Thursday, following which the EC announced the final result of the PR election and asked parties to recommend their lists of winners.
Earlier in the evening, the EC handed over victory certificates to the respective parties.
The election body had already submitted the result of the National Assembly election to President Bhandari.
EC commissioners Ila Sharma, Narendra Dahal, Ishwori Prasad Paudel and Sudhir Kumar Shah accompanied CEC Yadav to Shital Niwas.
